There’s something magical about Christmas markets — the lights, the mulled wine, the cozy food stalls, and the feeling that time slows down. As a flight attendant, I get to experience destinations a little differently, and this holiday season I finally checked several Christmas markets off my list. This is my Christmas tradition and I love experiencing them and getting in the mood for the holiday season.

Here are the ones I visited and which ones are actually worth it šŸ’š

Why I Love Christmas Markets ā¤ļø

Christmas markets feel like stepping into a snow globe. Every city does them differently, but they all share that same cozy energy — twinkly lights, festive music, and people lingering with warm drinks in hand. They’re perfect for wandering, people-watching, and soaking up the season.

My Favorite Christmas Markets

šŸŽ„Christkindlemarkte at Marienplatz

šŸ“Munich

What made it special: The largest and most famous in the city’s city square, with the iconic Glockenspiel clock

Best food and drink: bratwurst, and glühwein in adorable mugs

šŸŽ„Munich’s Medevil Christmas Market held at Wittelsbacherplatz

šŸ“Munich

What made it special: Authentic Setting,

Stalls designed to look like medieval times, with furs, leather, and traditional crafts.Ā

Best food or drink: dramatic, flaming punch where a rum-soaked sugarloaf is set on fire and melts into hot mulled wine (Glühwein) for a caramelized, potent treat served in special goblets.

Vibe: small, authentic and cozy!

šŸŽ„The Frankfurt Christmas Market (Frankfurter Weihnachtsmarkt) is one of Germany's oldest and largest, in the historic city center, featuring over 200 stalls with crafts, food (mulled wine, sausages, gingerbread), a giant Christmas tree

šŸ“Frankfurt

What made it special: Known for its festive lights, Christmas carols, church bells, and a large decorated Christmas tree.Ā

Best food and drink: Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancake dipped in garlic sauce šŸ˜‹. Also tried the famous eggnog drink, and hot chocolate with baileys!

The vibe: there a bunch of markets around this area and some just have food and others have festive vendors with handmade ornaments, nutcrackers and Christmas decor ā˜ŗļø

Tips Before You Go

• Go on weekdays if you can

• Bring cash

• Dress warmer than you think

• Wander without a plan

Final Thoughts

If you’re thinking about visiting Christmas markets, I can’t recommend it enough. Each city has its own charm, and part of the magic is slowing down and enjoying the moment.

We went last year to Frankfurt to fulfill my buckket list of visiting a Christmas Market. It was magical. We also took a train to Cologne to visit their market. It rained that day so it wasn't as comfortable but still enjoyable. As I post I am drinking my coffee from my little Christmas mug from Frankfurt. Layla, I look forward to reading your travel blogs. ā™„ļø
